Downtown Peterborough walking tour to explore area of historic 'Smith's Village'

The Monadnock Center for History and Culture will host a walking tour of Smith’s Village in downtown Peterborough on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 10:30 a.m. Named after mill owner Samuel Smith, the area was once a mill village that developed at the confluence of the Contoocook and Nubanusit Rivers 200 ago. This downtown walking tour will examine the places that remained the same since the 1820s, and the buildings and businesses that are now long gone. Tickets are $12 ($10 for Monadnock Center members) and must be purchased in advance. To buy tickets, go to MonadnockCenter.org or call 603-924-3235. The tour is 90 minutes long and will be held rain or shine.
