Dorchester County coalition to celebrate adult education and family literacy

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – Dorchester County Adult Education is partnering with Dorchester School District Two for National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week.
This week is full of activities to celebrate their impact last year and moving forward.
Last year they served over 400 adult learners, 57 earning their high school equivalency diploma and 32 upgrading their skills in English language.
Educators say the partnership has helped more people know about the program and get their high school diplomas.
Activities throughout the week include a “book tasting,” a reality of money financial simulator, and a family resource fair and end with a dance party.
Dorchester County Adult Education received a federal grant that allows them to fund curriculum that they teach on their campus.
Leaders say the partnership is critical to improving unemployment rates in the county.
Each year an average of 2,400 Dorchester residents take advantage of the courses and workshops throughout the county.
