Don't mistaken Ghana's hospitality for weakness - Hassan Ayariga - GhanaWeb

Hassan Ayariga is a Politician and leader of the All People’s Congress (APC)

Politician and leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga, has called on the government to undertake a comprehensive review of Ghana’s international relations policies, urging authorities to prioritise the interests and sovereignty of Ghanaians.

In a press statement released on September 30, 2025, the APC leader warned that Ghana’s hospitality must not be “mistaken for weakness.”

Ayariga expressed grave concern that without immediate action, Ghanaians risk “being overpopulated, outnumbered, and displaced in our own homeland.”

He pointed to foreigners allegedly establishing unregulated businesses, acquiring lands, and positioning themselves in ways that threaten “the very fabric of our nation.”

Six-Point Proposal for Self-Preservation:

To address these concerns, Ayariga proposed six key measures aimed at protecting Ghanaian interests:
1. Foreign Population Audit: Calling for a count of all foreigners living in Ghana, arguing that “No nation can remain sovereign if it cannot account for those within its borders.”
2. Strict Immigration and Residency Controls: Advocating for decisive action against illegal entry and overstays, including the introduction of quotas to regulate the long-term stay of foreigners.
3. Regulation of Foreign Businesses: Insisting that certain trades and markets must be exclusively preserved for Ghanaians to prevent local entrepreneurs from being driven out of business.
4. Land and Property Ownership: Demanding that the Constitution be upheld so that Ghanaian lands remain sacred and that foreigners may only lease property, with ownership reserved for Ghanaians.
5. Constitutional Safeguards: Proposing an amendment to the Constitution to ensure that political leadership and the highest offices of the nation are reserved for “true-born Ghanaians.”
6. Enforcement and Monitoring: Stating that the Ministry of Interior should oversee these measures to ensure the laws of Ghana protect Ghanaians first.

He was however quick to emphasise that, his measures are “not acts of hostility,” but rather “acts of self-preservation.”

While welcoming foreigners to Ghana, he stressed that it must be “only on Ghana’s terms, not at the expense of Ghanaians.”

“Ghana is for Ghanaians. And as long as we live, we shall never allow our people to become strangers in their own land,” the statement stated.
