PTIPresident Donald Trump address the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, at U.N. headquarters.
Days after calling up Prime Minister Narendra Modi to extend birthday greetings and heaping praises on him, US President Donald Trump on Tuesday yet again blamed India alongside China for funding Russia’s Ukraine war and once again claimed that he stopped the war between India and Pakistan. This is the first time that India was targeted in this fashion by the US from the UNGA. “China and India are the primary funders of the ongoing war by continuing to purchase Russian oil,” Trump said in his address at the UN General Assembly even as he reiterated his “seven wars in seven months” claim.Analysts claimed that Trump’s statements indicate that he is bargaining hard as India and the USA are negotiating a trade deal.Trump again reiterated that the Ukraine war would not have started if he was the President during that time. “Of the seven wars that I stopped, I thought that it would be the easiest because of my relationship with President Putin, which has always been a good one,” Trump said, adding, “It should have taken a matter of days, certainly less than a week. But they have been fighting for three-and-a-half years.”The US President also attacked European countries for buying Russian energy products. “They have to immediately cease all energy purchases from Russia. Otherwise we’re all wasting a lot of time,” Trump said. “The only question now is how many more lives would be needlessly lost on both sides. China and India are the primary funders of the ongoing war by continuing to purchase Russian oil,” he said, adding that “even NATO countries have not cut off Russian energy products”.Live EventsHe also threatened another round of tariffs to stop the “bloodshed very quickly”. “To end the war, the US is fully prepared to impose a very strong round of powerful tariffs which would stop the bloodshed very quickly,” he added. The remarks from the US President, first from the UN stage in his second term, come weeks after his administration imposed an additional 25% tariff on New Delhi for its purchases of Russian oil, raising the tariffs to 50%, among the highest in the world.Trump also reiterated his claims of resolving seven wars, including the India-Pakistan conflict despite New Delhi categorically denying any mediation claims. “They said they were unendable, some were going on for 31 years, one was 36 years. I ended 7 wars, and in all cases they were raging with countless thousands of people being killed.”Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
