Donald Trump has praised Scott Bessent and said he is thinking of appointing him as the next Chairman of the Federal Reserve. However, the U.S. President added he did not think his Secretary of the Treasury would want the job of replacing Jerome Powell as Fed chair next year. "I'm thinking about him for the Fed," Trump told business leaders during a speech in Japan. However, he added: "But he won't take the job, he likes being at the Treasury." Heaping praise on Bessent, Trump said: "How good is he on television? He soothes the markets — I don't soothe the markets; I sometimes disturb the markets." Five Candidates to Replace Jerome Powell On Monday Bessent confirmed there were five names in the ring to replace Powell: Christopher Waller and Michelle Bowman, who are both Federal Reserve governors; Kevin Warsh, former Fed governor; Kevin Hassett, a White House economic adviser; and Rick Rieder, senior managing director at asset manager BlackRock. He said he would be carrying out interviews and would then present a final list to Trump after Thanksgiving.
