Donald Trump Begins 'Very High Stakes' Visit to King Charles in Windsor

Donald Trump has been greeted at Windsor Castle by Prince William and Princess Kate at the start of what a royal author told Newsweek would be a “very high stakes state visit.”Trump went on to meet King Charles III and Queen Camilla, who is recovering from acute sinusitis, ahead of a carriage procession throught the Windsor Estate.Ingrid Seward, author of My Mother and I, told Newsweek: “This is a very high stakes state visit. The frill on the frock is the royalty.”Camilla’s attendance was thrown into doubt Tuesday after she pulled out of the funeral of the Duchess of Kent due to ill health, however, Newsweek understands she will make all elements of a packed schedule to the state visit Wednesday.Seward agreed: “I think Queen Camilla will be there for everything. Sinusitis is very painful but I think she’ll just drug herself up and get through the day.”I would think that Charles is rather amused and bemused by Trump.”Donald Trump arrived into an overcast and strangely muted Windsor where the route of his upcoming carriage procession is—unusually for royal pageantry—out of bounds to the public behind cast iron gates and security barriers.Soldiers, rather than royalists, will line the route and even the protesters who oppose his arrival on U.K. soil were not present in significant number, many no doubt choosing London as a better location to express their views.A Chinook helicopter was the first sign of Trump’s arrival followed by two helicopters both resembling Marine One, no doubt helping to make life difficult for any would be attackers. And with the President safely ensconsced behind the castle walls, the royal charm offensive has begun in earnest.Tim Miles, 62, was in Windsor wearing a red “Make America Go Away” hat. He told Newsweek: “I’d rather he stayed away. He’s making enough of a mess of his own country I don’t see why anyone should invite him anywhere else.”It’s nonsense, he shouldn’t have anything to do with him. You can’t trust him anyway so there’s no point in talking to him. I don’t like Charles anyway but he should just kick Trump out.”Do you have a question about King Charles III and Queen Camilla, Prince William and Princess Kate, Meghan and Harry, or their family that you would like our experienced royal correspondents to answer?
