PTC News Desk: For the first time in six years, US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in person on Thursday on the sidelines of the APEC Summit in South Korea. The high-level meeting sought to ease months of trade friction and rebuild stability between the world’s two largest economies.We know each other very well, we have a great relationship. We could sign a trade deal today,” Trump told reporters as he and Xi posed for the cameras, moments after the two Presidents shook hands.Their last bilateral meeting was held in 2019 during the G20 Summit in Osaka, Japan, when Trump was serving his first term as president.As the bilateral meeting began, Trump said, It's a great honour to be with a friend of mine, really for a long time now. The very distinguished and respected President of China. We've already agreed to a lot of things, and we'll agree to some more right now, but President Xi is a great leader of a great country, and I think we're going to have a fantastic relationship for a long period of time.The Chinese leader further says that he has stated in public many times that Beijing and Washington should be partners and friends.This is what history has taught us and what reality demands, Xi said, adding that he was ready to continue working with Trump to build a sound atmosphere for the development of both countries.The highly anticipated meeting comes as the US-China trade war reignited this month after Beijing proposed dramatically expanding curbs on exports of rare-earth minerals vital for high-tech applications, a sector the Asian giant dominates.Since assumption of office in January, Donald Trump has raised sweeping tariffs on Chinese goods with Beijing swiftly retaliating with its own curbs.
