Dominion Energy crews prepare for Tropical Storm Imelda

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Dominion Energy crews have been trying to make sure their system and their customers are prepared for any effects from Tropical Storm Imelda.
Over the weekend, line workers and contractors staged vehicles and stocked storerooms with equipment in case the storm impacts the Lowcountry or other parts of the Palmetto State. Dominion officials said they are bringing in resources from outside the state to ensure they can respond quickly if outages occur.
“We’re making investments in our system,” Dominion Energy spokesman Paul Fischer said. “That’s investments in technology, investments in new infrastructure. We’re adding new poles to our system that are more resilient, more resistant to high winds. And of course, tree trimming is a very important part of a reliable and resilient electric system for our customers.”
Company officials urged residents to update their hurricane kits with essentials such as flashlights, batteries, and enough water for several days. They also reminded customers to charge electronic devices before the storm arrives and to secure outdoor furniture, grills and yard equipment that could become dangerous in high winds.
Dominion encourages customers to download the Dominion Energy app to report outages and receive real-time updates. Customers with registered mobile phone numbers can also get text alerts about power disruptions and estimated restoration times.
Any restoration efforts will begin as soon as weather conditions permit.
