Dominica delegation participates in 18th OECS Credit Union Summit in St. Kitts

Twenty-three representatives from Dominica are currently attending the 18th Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Credit Union Summit, held from September 23 to 28, 2025, at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort. The delegation includes staff and volunteers from four credit unions—Central Cooperative Credit Union, Marigot Cooperative Credit Union, West Coast Co-operative Credit Union and National Cooperative credit Union. The delegation also includes officials from the Dominica Co-operative League Ltd and the Corporate Finance Facility (CORPEFF).

The Dominica Cooperative Societies League states in a release that the summit, convened under the theme “One Vision, One Future: OECS Credit Unions Growing Together”, is hosted by the St. Kitts and Nevis National Co-operative League Ltd, It brings together cooperators from across the OECS region to explore strategies for strengthening the credit union movement and addressing economic challenges through cooperative business models.

The summit officially commenced with an Opening Ceremony on September 24, featuring a keynote address by Mr. Timothy Antoine, Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB). His presentation, titled “Navigating the Economic and Financial Landscape of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU): Are Credit Unions Positioned for Strategic Expansion?” set the tone for the week’s discussions.

Participants will engage in a series of plenary sessions, fire side chats, round table engagements, and networking events. Key topics to be addressed during the business sessions include:

Regulation: “Modernising Oversight: Harmonising Regulatory Standards for ECCU Credit Unions”Green Lending: “Is It Much Ado About Nothing OR Can Green Lending Strengthen Institutions and Expand Loan Portfolios?”Investment: “Beyond Lending: Diversifying Cooperative Investment Portfolios for Sustainable Returns”Member Engagement: “From Boomers to Zoomers (Gen Z): Reassessing Member Engagement for a Multi-Generational Credit Union Future”IT Ecosystem: “Building a Resilient Financial Ecosystem for Credit Unions”Governance: “Disruption with Purpose: Strengthening Governance Through Bold Board Leadership”Strategic Growth: “The Future Of The Credit Unions Within The ECCU: Has The Time Come To Reimagine The Operational Model To Ensure Continued Relevance, Resilience, And Growth?”

The Dominica delegation left the island on September 23 and is scheduled to return on September 28, following the conclusion of the summit.
