Dolly Parton wants everyone to know that, in her words, she “ain’t dead yet”.
The legendary country singer has published video proof that she’s very much alive and kicking, after speculation about her health continued to mount following the postponement of her Las Vegas residency due to what she described as “health challenges”.
Taking a break from filming a Grand Ole Opry commercial, Dolly reassured fans on Wednesday in a clip posted to her official social media accounts on Wednesday: “I know lately everyone thinks I’m sicker than I am. Do I look sick to you? I’m working hard here!
“Anyway, I wanted to put everybody’s mind at ease, those of you who seem to be real concerned, which I appreciate. I appreciate your prayers because I’m a person of faith. I could always use the prayers for anything and everything, but I’m OK.”
Dolly went on to reference the loss of her husband of almost 60 years, Carl Dean, earlier this year, explaining she “let a lot of things go” and didn’t take care of herself after his death.
“Anyway, when I got around to it, the doctors said: ‘We need to take care of this, we need to take care of that,’’ she continued. “Nothing major but I did have to cancel some things so I could be closer to home. But I wanted you to know that I’m not dying!”
Dolly also took a moment to address the bizarre AI pictures that have been doing the rounds in the last week, depicting Reba McIntyre at the side of what appeared to be her fellow country singer’s deathbed.
She reassured fans: “There’s just a lot of rumours flying around, but I figured if you heard it from me you’d know that I was OK.
“Anyhow, that’s what I wanted to say and I’m not ready to die yet. I don’t think God is through with me and I ain’t done working. So, I love you for caring and keep praying for me.”
Earlier this week Dolly’s sister Freida clarified comments about the singer’s health, after she wrote on Facebook that she’d been “up all night praying” for the Jolene singer.
“I didn’t mean to scare anyone or make it sound so serious when asking for prayers for Dolly. She’s been a little under the weather, and I simply asked for prayers because I believe so strongly in the power of prayer,” Freida explained.
