Dog thrown from police car in Melbourne freeway crash

A police dog was thrown from a car after a collision in Melbourne overnight.

It’s alleged a white Mercedes Benz crashed into the rear of a police car on the Tullamarine Freeway, Tullamarine, at about 10.45pm.

The impact ejected police dog Rocco, a German shepherd, from the car.

His police officer handler was treated at the scene for minor injuries and taken to hospital for observation.

Rocco is being treated at the vet for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Mercedes driver, a 19-year-old Oak Park man, stopped at the scene. He was not injured.

His passenger, a 21-year-old Meadow Heights woman, was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Oak Park man was charged with multiple offences, including dangerous driving and reckless conduct.

He was bailed and will appear in court on January 21 next year.
