Dog Owners Adopt Pup From ‘Golden Retriever Rescue’—DNA Results Shock Them

After adopting a pup from a “golden retriever rescue,” a dog owner believed for years that it was the breed of their dog—then a DNA test revealed the truth about the pet. In a Reddit post shared on Wednesday under the username u/ash3ss, the canine’s owner shares pictures of their pup, a medium-sized, yellow, long-haired pup, that resembles a golden retriever, but couldn’t be further from it. “People often ask if she’s a golden retriever …” the poster wrote in the post, as a screenshot of the DNA test results showed the actual breed of the pup. The poster’s beloved golden retriever, turned out to be 49.9 percent Siberian husky, 26 percent Weimaraner, 22.9 percent Great Pyrenees, and 4.2 percent German shepherd. “We even adopted her from a golden retriever rescue!” the poster adds. DNA tests can also provide clues about your dog’s temperament, helping explain some of their individual behaviors and traits. A stock image shows a yellow dog smiling in the yard. One user, BriennetheBrave, commented: “I think most people greatly overestimate their knowledge of dog breeds and husbandry. They always give me their guesses, and I never really wanna hear them. I’d rather just tell them what my dogs are. Cute puppy!” Difficult-Froyo1192 wrote: “I really expected there to be some chow or a smaller eared dog there. She’s got fairly small ears for this breed mix. I guess she took the husky ears. Absolute cutie though!!” Thequeenbeesh posted: “The moment I saw the belly up sleeping pose, no doubt in my mind there was husky in there!” Newsweek reached out to u/ash3ss for comment via Reddit.
