The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 in the 18th inning of Game 3 of the World Series. Freddie Freeman hit a walk-off home run in the game, but Shohei Ohtani is the one making the most headlines. Ohtani went 4-for-4 and reached base nine times in the game. In his final five trips to the plate, he was walked five times, four of which were intentional walks. After the game, John Schneider noted that the Blue Jays could continue taking the bat out of Ohtani’s hands. While it deprives fans of seeing Ohtani do something great at the plate, Freeman agrees with the Blue Jays’ decision to walk Ohtani, just as they did five times in Game 3. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – OCTOBER 27: Shohei Ohtani #17 of the Los Angeles Dodgers is congratulated in the dugout after scoring a run on a single by Freddie Freeman #5 during the fifth inning against the Toronto Blue Jays in game three of the 2025 World Series at Dodger Stadium on October 27, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. You don’t want Shohei to beat you, and let other guys try and beat you after his first four at-bats. It took a lot longer, but we finally did it.” There’s no telling if Game 3 goes into the 18th inning if Ohtani gets to hit in any of his at-bats with the game tied up at five runs apiece. The Blue Jays did not have any interest in finding out. The Dodgers eventually came away with the win, but burned plenty of bullpen arms. The player that may, in turn, affect most is Ohtani, who is slated to start in Game 4. The Dodgers need him to go deep into the game after burning through their bullpen. Yoshinobu Yamamoto was warming up in Game 3, highlighting the state of the Dodgers’ bullpen. More MLB: Blue Jays Reveal New Plan for Facing Shohei Ohtani With 1-Word Message
