Dodgers Star Thinks Blue Jays Got Lucky in World Series Game 5 Win

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Blake Snell believes he was “unlucky” during his lackluster outing, despite pitching well. Snell allowed six hits, four free bases, and two home runs, both of which came on the first two batters that he faced, Davis Schneider and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The Dodgers were tied 2-2 heading in the World Series heading into Game 5 of the World Series. It was their last home game of the series, making it all the more pivotal that they win. Manager Dave Roberts trusted Snell with the ball for the pivotal game, though things quickly went awry after the leadoff home runs. Both Schneider and Guerrero crushed Snell’s fastball, prompting the pitcher to throw offspeed pitches, which allowed him to settle into the game. It was 97 mph, and he hit it 98 mph. Pretty unlucky. “Vlad, that’s just a bad pitch. After that, it was pretty smooth sailing. Figured out the lineup, what they like to do. I think they were ambushing the fastball.” There were some fielding errors namely by Tesoscar Hernandez, which did cost Snell at least a run on his record; however, he believes he pitched well overall. “It’s unlucky. I’m not one to make excuses or anything close to that. It was pretty unlucky. Only so much you can do,” Snell said. “I was throwing 97, 98 (miles per hour). I felt good. I feel strong. I’ve been training to be ready for this. I felt good. I trust me. It’s just frustrating.” The Dodgers are on the verge of elimination, going through their biggest taste of adversity yet. Yoshinbou Yamamoto takes the mound next on Friday, though if the offense fails to get going once again, it might not matter how well he pitches.
