Dodgers Considering Benching Outfielder for World Series Game 3

The Los Angeles Dodgers are considering a change to the starting lineup for World Series Game 3, potentially benching outfielder Andy Pages in favor of a new bat. Pages has only managed to get four hits in 43 at-bats this postseason, drawing no walks at the plate and striking out 11 times. In the postseason, he is slashing .093/.133/.116, and as his slump has continued, questions about his spot in the starting lineup have started to come up. He’s playing very sound defense, which is a big part of why he’s in there. “…Being in the 9 hole, I’m not expecting him to carry the offense, but still be a contributor. I have contemplated other decisions. I’m keeping a close eye on it. But yeah, I mean, I still need to see some kind of uptick in consistency of performance. So when and if I decide to change — I haven’t decided that, but I’m being mindful.” More news: Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani Responds to Blue Jays Manager’s Comments In Game 2 of the World Series, Pages went 1-for-4. In the lead-up to Game 3, Roberts was asked about whether he is still contemplating a change in the lineup or if his hit has given him a longer leash. “Still on the table,” Roberts said. “It’s front of mind, just trying to figure out where he’s at mentally, physically. Certainly the performance hasn’t been there. Thinking of other options. So, yeah, it’s certainly on the table.” The Dodgers evened the series at 1-1 with their Game 2 victory, and it could lead Roberts to avoid a drastic change, at least for another game. Regardless, Pages will need to deliver more than he has thus far, or he may find himself on the bench.
