Dodgers Called Potential Landing Spot In $500 Million Free Agency Sweepstakes

Dodgers Called Potential Landing Spot In $500 Million Free Agency Sweepstakes

The Chicago Cubs made a huge move to bring in superstar outfielder Kyle Tucker during the offseason. Tucker, who sits on an expiring contract, is projected to land a deal worth north of $400 million in free agency.
When Tucker lands in free agency, he’s set to have some of the biggest spenders in the league chasing after him.
Patrick McAvoy of Sports Illustrated recently listed the Los Angeles Dodgers as a potential suitor in the upcoming Tucker sweepstakes.
“This one is pretty obvious. Tucker is the jewel of this year’s free agent class. Spotrac currently is projecting his market value to be over $500 million across 12 years. That makes sense,” McAvoy wrote. “He’s just 28 years old and is the type of bat you build an entire lineup around. He’s older than Juan Soto so he surely will get less than the mammoth of a deal he got last offseason, but he is similarly impactful in the lineup when fully healthy.
“The Cubs gave up a haul to get Tucker in a trade with the Houston Astros. He has fit their lineup well and is one of the reasons for Chicago’s turnaround this year. A superstar can’t be mentioned and not linked to Los Angeles. Financially, it shouldn’t work. But, the Dodgers always find a way to get involved.”
The Dodgers are a top suitor for most of the biggest free agents in baseball. They were reportedly interested in Juan Soto last year, but he ended up out of their budget. With Tucker expected to land $300 million less than Soto, the money could work.
And the fit in the outfield would work, too. This would give the Dodgers a superstar outfielder to pair alongside their star-studded lineup. It would solidify Los Angeles as the best offense in baseball going forward.
It’s not as far-fetched as it seems. The money could work.
