‘Do they let me go?’… Conor McGregor admits he’s ‘unsure’ about his future with the UFC ahead of return

Conor McGregor recently addressed whether his UFC return could end up being a permanent move.
McGregor has recently stated that his next UFC fight is already a “done deal”, which will see him compete for the first time in five years at the White House in 2026.
‘The Notorious’ is clearly motivated to make his way back to the Octagon following his failed comeback attempt in 2024.
However, McGregor has also spoken about wanting to fight in BKFC in the future as a part owner of the promotion.
He recently addressed what he believes will determine his future when speaking in an interview.
Conor McGregor says that the UFC will have a big decision to make regarding his future
As evidenced by his press conference clash with Mike Perry, Conor McGregor is in full BKFC mode ahead of the promotion’s big event on Saturday night.
That being said, his UFC return has been another big talking point, with the Irishman revealing that he’s already starting to put plans together for his training.
The perfect BKFC opponent for ‘The Notorious’ could be decided this weekend when Perry faces Jeremy Stephens in Newark.
While competing in his own promotion is another big source of motivation for McGregor, he recently stated that his future with the UFC is somewhat up in the air.
He recently stated in an interview with BroBible that the UFC will have a big decision to make as his current contract, which has two fights left on it, starts to run down.
“Let’s see how the future shapes out. Obviously, I’ve got my UFC contract, I’ve got the fight at the White House coming up in eight months’ time. Then, I’ve got one more fight on the contract. The UFC have to come to me with business.
“They may try and secure me for longer, I don’t know what they’re going to do. They have a decision on their hands to make. Do they secure me, or do they let me go? I’m unsure but all that matters to me is my preparation and then what lies ahead after that, I’m ready.”
Conor McGregor could be in a very different place regarding his UFC future if 2024 had gone to plan
Conor McGregor’s UFC return in 2024 was derailed by an injury just several weeks out from international fight week in Las Vegas.
If ‘The Notorious’ had made the walk at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, it would have left him with only one more fight on his UFC contract.
This would then set him up for what could’ve been his final appearance in the Octagon at the White House in 2026.
Instead, McGregor fighting in BKFC still seems a long way away if he’s going to need to compete twice before having the power to make this decision entirely for himself.
