DK Shivakumar sets June 2026 deadline for Ejipura Flyover completion

Bengaluru [Karnataka]: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday announced that the long-delayed Ejipura Flyover project will be completed by June 2026, bringing hope to thousands of commuters struggling with chronic traffic congestion in the Koramangala–Ejipura corridor. The announcement came during his inspection of the construction site, accompanied by Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, as part of his “Walk with Bengaluru” civic outreach initiative. Long-delayed project regains momentum The Ejipura Flyover project, which began before 2019, has faced repeated delays due to contractor disputes, fund allocation issues, and technical hurdles. After remaining stalled for several years, the project was recently revived under a new contractor, with full-scale construction now underway. During his visit, DK Shivakumar reviewed progress on-site and interacted with engineers and local officials to assess the pace of work. “I am happy to see that full-scale work has commenced. This elevated corridor is designed to ease traffic congestion along the Koramangala–Ejipura stretch. We are committed to completing the project by June 2026 and ensuring this vital link serves our residents without further delay,” the Deputy Chief Minister said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Residents flag civic concerns Local residents and civic activists who participated in the “Walk with Bengaluru” interaction raised several grievances related to incomplete infrastructure, drainage issues, flooding during rains, and poor last-mile connectivity in the surrounding neighbourhoods. “Every monsoon, this stretch becomes a nightmare. The half-built flyover has created bottlenecks and waterlogging points. While it’s good that the project is back on track, we want strict monitoring so it doesn’t stall again,” said Vivek Menon, a Koramangala resident who joined the inspection. Citizens also urged the government to improve pedestrian infrastructure, streamline traffic diversions during construction, and enhance coordination between the BBMP, BMRCL, and traffic police. A key link for south Bengaluru traffic Once completed, the Ejipura Flyover is expected to significantly decongest one of south Bengaluru’s busiest corridors — connecting Koramangala, Adugodi, Sony World Junction, and the Inner Ring Road. The flyover will also improve access to Ejipura, Indiranagar, and Domlur, reducing travel time for daily commuters. Officials from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) said that around 60 per cent of preliminary work, including piling and foundation, has been completed. The project’s total estimated cost stands at ₹230 crore, with funding split between BBMP and the state government. Government focus on infrastructure revival The Ejipura Flyover inspection follows a series of on-ground reviews conducted by DK Shivakumar under the “Walk with Bengaluru” initiative, aimed at engaging directly with citizens and assessing the progress of civic and infrastructure projects. Earlier, he had reviewed works related to flood mitigation, road resurfacing, and stormwater drain upgrades across several city wards. “We are working to ensure every delayed project in Bengaluru gets back on schedule. The goal is to make the city’s infrastructure resilient and efficient before the next monsoon,” Shivakumar said. As Bengaluru continues to grapple with rapid urbanisation, traffic congestion, and infrastructure gaps, the timely completion of the Ejipura Flyover will be a crucial test of the government’s commitment to improving the city’s mobility and liveability.
