‘Disgusting’: Internet, Hollywood turns on ‘AI actress’ Tilly Norwood
Furious online commenters, A-list stars and even the Hollywood actor’s union have denounced this rising young actress – for one important reason.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban reportedly split
TMZ has cited multiple sources in its report that the movie star and the country singer…
Hollywood union SAG-AFTRA has today released a statement publicly denouncing a rising young actress named Tilly Norwod, slamming her as having “no life experience” and “no emotion.”
That’s because Norwood isn’t real: She’s an AI creation that has caused a stir after her creator, Eline Van der Velden, recently claimed that multiple talent agents were interested in representing Norwood for future acting opportunities.
Norwood has a fledgling presence on social media, which started several months ago with everyday photos of the AI creation doing mundane tasks like getting coffee and working on a laptop.
In recent days, though, the social media content has changed, pitching Norwood as a potential leading lady, with one “show reel” showing her in a variety of made-up roles in everything from a period drama to a superhero movie.

Backlash over new AI ‘actress’ Tilly Norwood
SAG-AFTRA has…
“In 20 seconds I fought monsters, fled explosions, sold you a car, and nearly won an Oscar.
All in a day’s work … literally! Find yourself an actress who can do it all,” read the caption.
The comments on that particular post have been turned off, but other recent posts from the Tilly Norwood account have been flooded with angry comments.
“Had such a blast filming some screen tests recently. Every day feels like a step closer to the big screen,” read another recent post, prompting a furious reaction online.
“You did not film anything this isn’t real!!” read one top-rated comment on the post which, like all Norwood’s posts, has not been labelled AI.
Another commenter called the post “disgusting” and complained that Norwood “will literally take roles and jobs from people like me.”
Aspiring actress Tilly Norwood is actually an AI creation.
“Worst thing I’ve ever seen. I’ll take a REAL actor instead,” another person commenter.
As the backlash to Norwood’s rising social media stardom grew, Hollywood union SAG-AFTRA has today issued a statement accusing the creation of putting actors out of work and “devaluing human artistry.”
“To be clear, ‘Tilly Norwood’ is not an actor, it’s a character generated by a computer program that was trained on the work of countless professional performers — without permission or compensation,” SAG-AFTRA wrote in a statement.
“It has no life experience to draw from, no emotion and, from what we’ve seen, audiences aren’t interested in watching computer-generated content untethered from the human experience. It doesn’t solve any ‘problem’ — it creates the problem of using stolen performances to put actors out of work, jeopardising performer livelihoods and devaluing human artistry.”
She can do sci-fi blockbusters …
… and period dramas.
But Tilly’s creator Eline Van der Velden, founder and CEO of London-based AI production company Particle6, has hit back at her critics.
“To those who have expressed anger over the creation of my AI character, Tilly Norwood: she is not a replacement for a human being, but a creative work – a piece of art,” said van der Velden in a statement published to Norwood’s Instagram account.
“Like many forms of art before her, she sparks conversation, and that in itself shows the power of creativity.”
Tilly’s creator says she’s happy she “sparks conversation.”
The AI creation is yet to land an actual acting gig.
“I see AI not as a replacement for people, but as a new tool, a new paintbrush,” Van der Velden continued. “Just as animation, puppetry, or CGI opened fresh possibilities without taking away from live acting, AI offers another way to imagine and build stories. I’m an actor myself, and nothing – certainly not an AI character – can take away the craft or joy of human performance.”

Several high-profile Hollywood stars are among those who’ve expressed their displeasure at the AI creation.
Whoopi Goldberg, Melissa Barrera and Mara Wilson are among those who’ve spoken out, while actress Emily Blunt had a visceral reaction when shown a picture of Norwood midway through a recent podcast interview with Variety.
“Does it disappoint me? I don’t know how to quite answer it, other than to say how terrifying this is,” Blunt said. “No, are you serious? That’s an AI? Good Lord, we’re screwed. That is really, really scary, Come on, agencies, don’t do that. Please stop. Please stop taking away our human connection.”
