The Marathi film Dashavatar, starring veteran actor Dilip Prabhavalkar, has been winning the hearts of audiences since its release on September 12. Made on a small budget, the movie has impressed viewers with a gripping story and strong performances. Directed by Subodh Khanolkar, it opened with Rs 60 lakh at the box office, but instead of slowing down, its collections kept growing. Surprisingly, the film earned more than its opening day on several consecutive days, mainly due to its strong word-of-mouth support.
On Sunday, the movie had its biggest single-day collection and even on weekdays, ticket sales stayed steady without any drop. This consistent performance has made Dashavatar one of the most successful Marathi releases of the year. Let’s take a closer look at its box office performance during the opening week.
Small Budget, Big Impact At The Box Office
Dashavatar had a strong opening week at the box office as it earned Rs 60 lakh on its first day. The collections jumped to Rs 1.4 Crore on the second day and further rose to Rs 2.4 Crore on the third day. On the fourth day, the film collected Rs 1.1 Crore, followed by Rs 1.3 Crore on day five. The sixth day saw Rs 1.25 Crore and the seventh day brought in Rs 1.2 Crore. Altogether, the film’s total collection for its first seven days has now reached Rs 9.25 Crore.
If the Marathi film continues its strong performance in the second week, it has the potential to cross the Rs 10 Crore mark at the box office.
Dilip Prabhavalkar plays Babuli Mestri, a dedicated performer of the traditional Dashavatari folk theatre from the Konkan region, who is determined to preserve his art. The emotional depth and mystery, along with its visuals and music, have kept the audience engaged throughout the film. Viewers have appreciated the movie not just for its intriguing plot, but also for the way the makers have shown traditions with care and connected modern audiences with the region’s history.
Other than Dilip Prabhavalkar, Dashavatar also stars Bharat Jadhav, Abhinav Berde, Priyadarshini Indalkar, Mahesh Manjrekar and Sidharth Menon.
