Did Taylor Swift just slam Travis Kelce’s ex on her newest album? Here’s what she sang

It’s no secret that global superstar Taylor Swift loves to use the lyrics of her songs to address rumors, feuds, breakups and more about her personal life. Sometimes the lyrics are difficult to decipher, while at other times, it’s not too hard to figure out who or what she’s talking about.
In her latest album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” released Friday, Swift again takes that approach, choosing to use the latter while appearing to throw shade at her fiancée’s ex. In the song “Opalite,” Swift begins by generally referencing her romantic relationships before she met football star Travis Kelce.
After bemoaning her own struggles to find true love, Swift shifts to singing about someone else who couldn’t find love.
“You couldn’t understand it/Why you felt alone/You were in it for real/She was in her phone/And you were just a pose” the verse begins, seemingly referring to Kelce’s ex, Kayla Nicole.
“You finally left the table/And what a simple thought/You’re starving til you’re not,” Swift continues.
Kelce and Nicole dated off-and-on from 2017 to 2022. At the time, Nicole worked as a sports broadcaster while also trying to become a fashion influencer while building a social media brand. Swift’s lyrics appear to reference Nicole’s aspirations in those fields.
Today, Nicole continues to work as a sports broadcaster, while hosting her own podcast “The Pre-Game,” and making content for social media. Swift began dating Kelce in 2023 and the two recently announced their engagement.
Nicole doesn’t appear to be the only target of Swift’s as lyrics in other songs on the album seem to reference actress Blake Lively and notable Swift enemy, singer Charlie XCX, among others.
“The Life of a Showgirl” is available now on streaming platforms and in stores nationwide.
