In the wake of conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination last week, a wave of fake Facebook posts with AI-generated captions has gone viral, this time targeting Olympic gymnast Simone Biles. The misleading post claimed that Biles had published a blog reacting to Kirk’s death, but no such blog exists. Instead, users who clicked on the link were taken to an AI-generated article filled with vague statements and dramatic language but lacking any evidence or sources. Old Comments Resurface The misleading post appears to link back to a moment from 2021, when Kirk called Biles a “sociopath” and “a shame to the country.” His remarks came after she withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics due to the “twisties,” a dangerous mental block gymnasts experience that affects balance and spatial awareness, according to For The Win report. The new wave of misinformation falsely suggests that Biles responded now, through a blog, to those old criticisms. The Facebook post included a link that led users to an AI-generated article. The piece was written to look like news but contained no sources, no proof, and no actual blog from Biles. It was filled with vague statements and exaggerated claims designed to grab attention. Problem With AI This incident is part of a wider trend of AI-generated misinformation spreading on Facebook. Just last week, other athletes were falsely linked to Kirk’s death in viral posts claiming they had donated to his family or called for moments of silence. None of those stories were true. So far, Simone Biles has not commented on the fake post. Get Latest News Live on Times Now along with Breaking News and Top Headlines from US News and around the World.
