YouTube legend Felix "PewDiePie" Kjelberg is currently living a semi-retired family-oriented life in Japan. This shift in lifestyle has led Felix to take up new hobbies and to reinforce older ones. Of late, the YouTuber has been delving into the technological side of his interests, and some of his newer uploads feature him exploring Linux, building computers, and, more recently, working with AI.These uploads are typically sprinkled amongst his usual Japan vlogs. On October 31, 2025, PewDiePie uploaded a video titled "STOP. Using AI Right now." The video starts with Felix explaining how he wanted to "max out" his computer, which he intended to use for cancer research. In August 2025, Felix shared a YouTube post explaining his vision:"USING MY COMPUTER TO FIGHT CANCER... I found this super cool project called Folding@home, thanks to a commenter on my last [video]. Basically: Scientists design protein simulations for disease research and We use our GPUs and crunch the data for them. SO... together we could be the world’s biggest supercomputer? --> for a good cause!"Essentially, the YouTuber's PC, decked out with a series of GTX 4090 GPUs, aims to assist scientists in their research via a public forum. A secondary mission with the computer is related to AI. Considering the $20,000 computer power he holds, Felix decided to explore "self-hosting" an AI model. While PewDiePie did not build his own AI, he did use his computer to host OpenAI's open source "GPT-OSS 120B" model. The "120B" signifies the model's parameter capacity being 120 billion. Coincidentally, Felix's maxxed-out PC has the capability to run the model at max capacity. Regarding the user experience, he said:"It feels exactly like ChatGPT, but it's fast as [f**k]."He then took it a step further and modified his PC to run the "Qwen 2.5 3B" model, which required upgraded computing power.Overall, PewDiePie's "STOP. Using AI Right now" aimed to convey the importance of self-hosting AI models to avoid personal user data from being used by large private corporations, like OpenAI or Google. What does PewDiePie think of AI? In terms of Felix's overarching thoughts on AI, he mentioned that he is against artificial image and video generation, especially because of his recent ventures into drawing and art:"First, we have to make some things crystal clear. I do not F with image generation or video generation. I don't really have that strong of opinion about it, but all the drawing nerds supported me in my drawing video, so I stand by the drawing nerds as a fellow drawing nerd myself." (Timestamp - 6:40)Secondly, PewDiePie suggested that the market was oversaturated with AI to begin with:"Seeing AI everywhere is so irritating to me... Even here on YouTube, the AI features are so useless. It's just become the hot next buzzword, and it's very annoying."He did add that the people who speak against artificial intelligence are "equally as bad," referencing the time his fellow platform member, Markiplier, received backlash for using AI with his Cloak clothing brand:"On the other hand, the people that just hate AI are equally... bad... I don't know if you heard Markiplier got canceled because he used AI."In other news, fans reacted by saying "he already won at life" after they noticed PewDiePie was no longer listed among YouTube’s top 10 most-subscribed channels.
