The Arizona Diamondbacks went all in to win this season, but Corbin Burnes' elbow injury threw a wrench in the plans. Ultimately, the Diamondbacks didn't have enough firepower to compete with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the loaded National League West. As a result, they sold at the trade deadline, which included a deal that sent pitcher Merrill Kelly to the Texas Rangers. But Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer recently predicted the Diamondbacks would reunite with Kelly in free agency on a two-year, $28 million deal. "The Diamondbacks need pitching, and they obviously have more familiarity with Kelly than any other team," Rymer wrote. "He's also an Arizona man, as he played high school ball in Scottsdale and college ball in Prescott and Tempe long before he made his way to Phoenix to pitch for the D-backs." Kelly was well liked in Arizona before being traded, so a reunion would make sense. Trading him at the deadline was simply a part of the business aspect of MLB. The Diamondbacks still have a lot of talent, so it would make sense to see them aggressive in free agency again this winter. Adding Kelly would be a solid move and it could be the beginning of a good offseason for the Diamondbacks. They won't be able to close the gap on the Dodgers in one winter, but this could be a good move to help chip away.
