Mike DeWine called on the Ohio Casino Control Commission to eliminate proposition bets, or “prop bets,” from the state’s list of legal sports wagers. DeWine at the time planned to ask the six major U.S. sports leagues to support a ban on prop betting, in which bettors place money on specific players and their performance. Three months later, the NBA is mired in a betting scandal, and DeWine is holding off for now as Major League Baseball is working with the nation’s five other major professional sports leagues to collectively seek such a ban in all 50 states. DeWine says he’s now focusing only on “microprop” bets, in which money is placed on the outcome of individual plays, such as whether the first pitch is a ball or a strike. — Laura Overnight Scores and Weather Cavs at Detroit Pistons: Cavs tap into defensive identity during 116-95 win in Detroit Northeast Ohio weather forecast: More sunshine Top Stories Prop bets: Ohio Gov.
