Developer buys former Hamilton Township school

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP — The shuttered J. Harold Duberson School in downtown Mays Landing has been sold to a developer who is slated to redevelop the site for residential use, according to a statement from the school district.
The price was not given for the sale of the property to Duberson Lofts LLC, an affiliate of Odin Properties.
Odin, based in Philadelphia, was founded in 2009 and specializes in transforming underperforming assets, according to its website.
“We are excited to see the Duberson School building restored and once again serving the community,” school board President Nanci Barr said.
The Farragut Avenue building, which opened as Mays Landing High School in 1928, was renamed in 1972 in honor of Duberson, an active member of many school organizations and civic and service clubs, and later served as a middle school, an elementary school and an alternative school.
The school closed in 2005.
The property also includes the Mays Landing Water Works building, a one-story brick structure likely constructed in 1907 as a pump station.
“This project represents both a preservation of our past and an investment in our future,” said Jerry Nelson, township committeeman and former board of education president.
