Even those who don’t follow the Detroit Lions or Baltimore Ravens have to admit that the Monday Night Football game on September 22 was an incredible watch. Heading into the matchup, the Ravens were expected to pull off a win, even with a slightly banged up lineup, but the Lions roared and rounded out the game with a 38-30 victory on the road.
Monday’s game was a solid one for pretty much every Detroit Lions player on the field, from quarterback Jared Goff to wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. The game was packed with stats that showed how serious the Lions were about getting a win, including Baltimore Ravens MVP-winning quarterback Lamar Jackson getting sacked seven times.
Following the game, the Detroit Lions made an announcement that was historic, and it’s one that should make one Lions player very happy. It just shows that hard work and consistency pay off in the end, especially under the bright lights of Monday Night Football.
Detroit Lions Player Makes History Against Ravens
Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery was named the “Player of the Game” after the contest, and the Detroit Lions also announced that he had a career high on the ground. By the end of the game, Montgomery had 12 carries, 151 rush yards and two touchdowns. Who can forget his 72-yard run, too? Congratulations are definitely in order for Montgomery.
Following the game, a happy Montgomery talked with reporters. He was asked about his crying touchdown celebration.
“I got like an alter self. I see myself as the Joker, and in one of his movies, he was fake crying, and he started to laugh after he was crying,” Montgomery said. “It was kind of like a joke on the world. That’s my go-to ‘celly’ for the whole year. You’ll see that a lot.”
Also after the game, Campbell was asked about his fourth-and-two decision. Nobody should be surprised at this point that Campbell goes for it, and he can trust, Goff, who’s really an underrated quarterback.
“I’ve got a tremendous amount of trust in those guys,” Campbell told the press. “That’s been built up now in five years, right? That helps. That offensive line, the way they were playing, we felt like that was the right call. It’s those guys, it’s the players.”
He added, “They’re the ones who make this stuff come to life. They’ve earned that trust, you know? Once again, they step up and make huge plays at critical times. It’s unbelievable, it really is. It’s a thing of beauty.”
Dan Campbell Talks Detroit’s Scoring Drives
Campbell also talked the Lions’ two scoring drives of 95-plus yards, noting, “That’s not easy to do when you’re backed up like that. Normally, the goal is three first downs. That way, if you get three first downs, you are able to flip field position.”
Campbell added, “But, to go above and beyond that and travel the distance against that opponent, with the crowd noise – the whole thing – that was impressive. Our guys had to dig now. They had to dig. Those are long drives. They did it, man. They did it.”
