LANSING, MI — The Detroit Lions may be scoring a bunch on the field, but a Michigan man just scored a game changer of a lottery win by playing the Michigan Lottery’s Detroit Lions instant game.
“I went to the store to buy a Powerball ticket, and my wife told me to get a few Detroit Lions tickets while I was there,” said the 74-year-old player who chose to remain anonymous. “I scratched the tickets the next morning and when I saw the $500,000 prize, I said to my wife, ‘Looks like we’re going to Lansing!’
“When I told her how much we’d won, she thought she was going to pass out! We were both dumbfounded. The shock hasn’t worn off yet, so we still can’t think straight, but what we do know is that this prize is going to be life-changing for us.”
The winner bought his ticket at the GCK Oil Inc., located at 206 Main Street in Blanchard, approximately 20 miles southwest of Mount Pleasant.
With his winnings, the man plans on donating, giving some to family and saving the remainder.

The last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot is the Breakfast Club lottery club which claimed a $842 million jackpot in June 2024. The members plan to use the money to buy a home in Florida and travel.
And while they were lucky winners, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a Powerball winner worth $250,000 sold in Bloomfield Hills in 2024 went unclaimed. That money went to the state’s School Aid Fund.
