Derek Chisora Names Fight Tyson Fury Wants if He Returns to Boxing

Tyson Fury is seemingly open to a return to boxing, but is only targeting one name if he does make a comeback. The 37-year-old retired in January, having lost his most recent two bouts. Fury has so far stuck by his decision. However, 'The Gypsy King' has frequently sent out mixed messages regarding the chances of him fighting again. The former WBC Heavyweight Champion has pulled a U-turn on retirement before, previously hanging up the gloves after a landmark win over heavyweight titan, Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015. A much-documented battle with mental health saw Fury leave the sport for three years before making his return with a victory over Sefer Sereri. A legendary trilogy with Deontay Wilder followed, which would see Tyson establish himself as the best heavyweight in the world for a period. He rose from the canvas in legendary fashion in the pair's first bout, and was unlucky in the eyes of many to only come away with a draw. The Brit would leave no doubt in their next two fights, ending the bouts in the seventh and 11th rounds respectively. It was only when Fury met Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight title that he would suffer defeat for the first time as a professional. Following that setback, Tyson received an immediate rematch, but would lose once again on points. Upset at the judges' scorecards in the rematch, Fury retired just three weeks after their second showdown in December 2024. Tyson Fury Makes Decision on Boxing Future British heavyweight veteran Derek Chisora recently spent some time with Fury in Monaco and gave some insight into the Morecambe fighter's current mindset during an interview with The Sun. The duo have become close pals after sharing the ring three times over the years. The rivalry-turned-friendship saw the pair leave it all in the ring, with Fury coming out on top on each occasion. According to the Londoner, Tyson's return to the ring is inevitable, and he has his heart set on coming back for yet another trilogy. Chisora insisted: "Tyson is coming back. He wants to fight Usyk. ‘The Gypsy King’ is coming back, don’t worry about that!" Despite Fury's protests, the consensus was that the Ukrainian convincingly won both their prior meetings, so it remains to be seen whether Fury would be granted an immediate shot at the reigning undisputed heavyweight champion. One major stumbling block that could prevent Usyk vs Fury 3 is Fabio Wardley. The Ipswich slugger is next in line for a shot at the champion's gold following his knockout of Joseph Parker last weekend. The WBO have ordered Usyk to defend against the winner, with promoters keen to stage the bout in early 2026. Chisora, though, believes that Usyk could be persuaded to face Fury a third time because of how lucrative the fight would be. "Usyk’s teams will ask for so much money and he already got so much for fighting twice in Saudi before. The last time I spoke to Usyk, he told me he wants ‘big money'." As much as Tyson appears to be insistent on only coming back to fight Usyk, a bout with fellow Brit Anthony Joshua would likely generate more interest. The mega-fight has been heavily hyped for years, but negotiations have repeatedly stalled, despite the best efforts of promoters Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren.
