Denver sports fans are voicing their displeasure with Avalanche owner and St. Louis villain Stan Kroenke after a social media post featuring the Colorado Avalanche attending a Los Angeles Rams game on Thursday night.
But it wasn’t the Avs’ trip to an NFL game on their day off that set off fans. All of the players were wearing Los Angeles Rams jerseys. Both the Avalanche and Rams are owned by Stan Kroenke, and, of course, Denver has its own NFL team.
“Cheering on our KSE family,” the post read.
KSE is in reference to Kroenke Sports and Entertainment, the name of Kroenke’s company that owns both teams, and several others.
Nearly all members of the Avalanche were present.
Most of the replies to the post were negative.
“Delete this. This is blasphemy. @Broncos, you see this?” one social media user posted.
“So the loyalty is to the corporation not the fan base these guys supposedly play for? Got it,” another added.
“Maybe the Broncos can visit Dallas and wear Stars jerseys to balance this,” a Facebook user replied to the Avs’ post.
That was just one of the ways in which fans lampooned Kroenke and the Rams during and after the game. The Rams lost to the 49ers on Thursday, and San Francisco fans appeared to outnumber Rams fans at LA’s $5 billion SoFi Stadium.
Before the game, a report from ticket resale site Vivid Seats claimed 61% of fans would be backing the 49ers. Some observers at the game thought that estimate was low.
The Rams even had to use a silent count all night to combat the visiting crowd noise.
Kroenke and the Rams left St. Louis after the 2015 season. The team trashed St. Louis on the way out but eventually agreed to settle a $790 million lawsuit after the city accused the team of violating its own relocation guidelines.
But even after the payday, the anger toward Kroenke from St. Louis fans remains.
Fans at Blues games and even Battlehawks games sometimes chant “Kroenke sucks.” T-shirts are available here featuring the same message. Even native son Pat Maroon has shared his disdain for Kroenke.
