Denver Ends as Least Successful Season in History

Denver singles, rejoice: It’s not you, it’s the city. The Netflix dating show Love is Blind has previously released eight seasons in eight different U.S. cities and fourteen international seasons in nine different countries. But it was our very own Mile High City that finally did the impossible. For the first time in the show’s history, zero couples got married during the Denver-based season nine. The season finale premiered on Wednesday, October 22, revealing what viewers already suspected. Megan and Jordan broke up before their wedding day. And while two couples made it to the altar — Ali and Anton, and Kalybriah and Edmond — both of the brides ultimately rejected the grooms. Ending the season without a single surviving relationship is no small feat, considering the entire premise of the show is bringing together people who are so desperate to get married that they’re willing to get engaged to a complete stranger without even seeing their face. However, Love is Blind is not the first reality show that Denver’s abysmal dating scene has brought to its knees. The Denver-based season of Married at First Sight came out last year, also becoming the least successful season in the show’s history. For the first time in Married at First Sight‘s seventeen-season run, none of the marriages lasted until the reunion episodes. While a handful of other seasons saw all the couples split after filming, Denver was the only season to lose every match before the cameras cut. The season also saw the first instance of a contestant being left at the altar, as well as one of the shortest marriages in the show’s history when a couple divorced after thirteen days. But at least some of the couples from that show managed to say “I do.” Although most of the relationships on Love is Blind crash and burn, until now, the show had been able to maintain that some contestants do find love every season. Most seasons result in two marriages; that was the case for seasons one in Atlanta, two in Chicago, three in Dallas and seven in Washington, D.C. Three seasons ended with one marriage each: season five in Houston, six in Charlotte and eight in Minneapolis. Season four in Seattle had three marriages, making it the most successful season. Many of the Denver contestants seem to have given up hope of finding love in the city. Ali broke up with Anton over concerns about his party lifestyle, having expressed earlier in the season that she wanted to move out of Denver to escape the nightlife scene. After Kalybriah left Edmond at the altar, he cried, “It’s so hard out here. This was my best chance. It was. I’ve done everything else.” Based on their social media pages, at least three of the cast members moved out of state before the show even started airing. Sorry, Netflix. Better luck next city.
