Irish actor Denise Gough has opened up about the incredible shame she felt when she ran away to London as a teenager. The Wexford native left home at 15 due to being groomed and went on to have a battle with addiction and be homeless for a time. Speaking on Síle Seoige's podcast Ready to be Real, the actress spoke about how she made the decision to leave Ireland and the shame around doing so. 'After I ran away, I ran away at 15, got to London at 16, and then there was a period of begging on the streets, being homeless,' Denise recalled. At this point in her life, Denise was just a teen figuring out her life, and was met with hardship in the form of addiction and homelessness, all the while her family was none the wiser. She told how her family was trying to get her to move back home, but Denise felt she couldn't as she was 'drenched in this shame that so many of us have.' The Irish woman vulnerably shared that her feeling at the time was that she would be blamed for what had happened to her if she went back home. 'I couldn't articulate what had happened, because I believed I would be blamed. I believed if I told them all what happened, then they'd say "Well, it's your fault",' she admitted. Fans flooded the comment section, praising Denise for her honesty. 'The most amazing woman. So much admiration for Denise.' 'There's no one in show business I admire more than this woman,' wrote another. Denise is most known for her role as Dedra Meero in the Star Wars franchise Andor, and has most recently signed on for Greta Gerwig's Narnia adaptation.
