Democrat Zohran Mamdani Wins New York City Mayoral Race, Becomes First Muslim Mayor in City’s History Democrat Zohran Mamdani has won the New York City mayoral race, defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa. The 34-year-old lawmaker’s victory makes him the city’s first Muslim mayor and one of the youngest to hold the office.Who is Zohran Mamdani?Born in Uganda and raised in New York City, Mamdani is a New York State Assembly member and a democratic socialist.
