Demi Lovato is feeling confident thanks to her relationship.
The “Cool for the Summer” singer shared that her ninth studio album “It’s Not That Deep” — out Oct. 24 — marks the return of “Popvato,” in part thanks to husband Jutes.
“I think it’s really a reflection of where I’m at personally,” Lovato told Paper Magazine in an interview published Sept, 15. “I’m not in this place in my life where I need these huge emotional ballads to release some sort of deep emotional trauma I’m going through.”
The 33-year-old explained that when she started to work on the new album, she began writing songs that featured “heavy topics,” but quickly found that they weren’t resonating with her. Instead, she gravitated towards lighter fare — especially after her May marriage to the rapper and songwriter (real name Jordan Lutes).
“I’m in a place in my life where my energy feels very light,” Lovato continued. “I just got married. It was a learning curve for me to take what I’ve always known about music, which is write what you know now. I had to learn how to write what was new to me, and that’s what this album is a reflection of.”

The Disney Channel alum added that because the tone of her life “is lighter,” she “wanted a project that reflected that.”
And that’s the energy she’s bringing with It’s Not That Deep, which is not just the title of the album, but also how Lovato feels about her current music.
“That’s the energy I want to carry into this project with the music,” she shared. “I just want to be happy. That’s what this is about for me.”
And Jutes, 34, hasn’t just made a difference in Lovatoi’s music — he’s completely helped uplift her outlook on life.
“I’ve waited my whole life for him,” Lovato told People in 2024, two years after the couple started dating. “It’s very grounding to have a partner that is so supportive, so loving, so caring. It’s very easy to stay centered with him because I love him so much and he treats me so amazing.”
