A 21-year-old student at Delta State University in Mississippi has been found dead on campus. Police in Cleveland, Mississippi, said the body of Demartravion “Trey” Reed was found hanging from a tree on Monday morning. University police chief Michael L Peeler told reporters they suspected the death was a suicide and that initial observations showed no sign of foul play. The Bolivar County coroner has not yet confirmed the official cause of death. “At approximately 7:05 am (local time), university police was notified of what appeared to be the body of a black male hanging from a tree on central campus near the DSU pickleball courts,” Peeler said. The discovery came as Delta State was preparing to mark its centennial celebrations. The university has cancelled classes and events in response. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends impacted. Counselors and support services are available to students, faculty and staff through the O.W. Reily Counseling Center,” the university said in a statement. What is the Cause of Death? Despite police suspecting no foul play, Reed’s death has prompted speculation online after a video of the scene was shared on social media. The video has been widely circulated, drawing anger and concern. Later on Monday, Reed’s mother issued a statement asking for privacy and urging people not to share the footage. “On behalf of my family, I ask that you please not share the very graphic video of Trey,” the message, posted on Facebook by a family member, read. “For some of you it’s information, entertainment even, but for us it’s a living nightmare.” Get Latest News Live on Times Now along with Breaking News and Top Headlines from US News and around the World.
