Delta Airlines has been rocked by a third mishap in under a week after a plane was forced to abort takeoff when cockpit window flew open.
Delta Flight 2261 was on the runway at Minneapolis Airport on Wednesday, preparing to fly to Las Vegas when a window opened unexpectedly in the cockpit.
This came just days after two separate Delta planes caught fire on their way out of the Atlanta airport.
According to a recording from the plane obtained by CNN, the pilot told the air traffic control tower: ‘No need for crash fire rescue, we just need to run a checklist. We had a window come open.’
The Boeing 737 was rolling down the runway at a ‘low speed.’
Windows in the cockpits of passenger aircrafts can be opened to allow for extra air circulation while the plane is still on the ground.
Pressure in the plane keeps them closed while its in the air.
The 149 passengers and six crew members were taken back to their gate and forced to deplane as a precautionary measure.
Passengers deplaned and were loaded on to a second aircraft.
According to Delta Flight Status, the plane was originally scheduled to depart at 7.22am and arrive in Las Vegas at 8.45am.
The flight was delayed almost two hours, leaving Minneapolis at 9:10am and arriving after 10am.
In a statement to Daily Mail about the third in a slate of incidents, Delta said: ‘As the safety of our customers and people is paramount, the flight crew followed training to safely suspend takeoff following a mechanical issue in the flight deck.
‘We apologize for the delay in travel plans.’
The plane is now under evaluation by Delta’s maintenance team.
On the same day, a Delta flight from Atlanta to Nigeria reportedly had a smoking engine while still on the runway.
The plane reportedly had an issue with its engine and never took off.
Three days earlier, another flight departing from Atlana en route to Sacramento appeared to have sparks flying from the engine while it was airborne.
Passengers captured the fire on video and the plane returned to the airport shortly after takeoff.
