Delta Air Lines Using AI For New Concierge Service

Delta Air Lines launched a new version of its Delta Concierge artificial intelligence-powered digital assistant this week, expanding the capabilities of the technology that debuted in January at CES, a consumer electronics trade show. Housed within the Delta app, the October 29 Delta Concierge beta release delivers real-time, personalizes support to SkyMiles Members. Delta SkyMiles is the company’s branded frequent flyer program. The beta version rolled out first to select SkyMiles Members. Those users will be able to provide Delta with feedback. Delta says that trial users were selected at random. A man looks at his smartphone while traveling. “We see Delta Concierge as a natural evolution of the digital experience — a way to create simpler, more personalized, and more intuitive journeys with our customers. By empowering customers to easily find answers to their travel questions with AI, or take action in a simple tap, we empower Delta people to deliver more of the one-on-one, nuanced care that sets us apart,” Eric Phillips, Delta’s chief digital officer told Newsweek. Delta Concierge can get real-time answers to travel questions for users that they would normally have to click through layers of the app to find like flight time, seat, and gate. Questions about SkyMiles status and benefits can be answered as well. The beta version of the tech allows users to access personalized FAQs based on travel history and learned preferences. Should your bag not arrive when you do, or arrive damaged, Delta Concierge can assist with bag tracking and claim status. Users can utilize Delta Concierge’s voice activation capabilities to remain hands-free while on the go. In the future, Delta Concierge will add more features to the service for travelers, adapting it over time. Upcoming functionalities include travel tips, wayfinding at the airport and international travel requirement guidance. Delta employees will receive expanded support to fit their roll. Currently, Delta offers its customers much of this information via app screens, purchasing interfaces and in emails during and immediately following booking, upon check-in, while en route, and post journey. To see if you have been selected, open up your Delta app on your smartphone and look for the widget icon in the upper right-hand corner of the app home screen that resembles the Delta logo with additional two stars. If you do not have that icon, you were not selected to be part of the beta experience and do not have access to the service, but that doesn’t mean you won’t get it. The airline says that it is adding more users as part of an extended roll out period.
