Delhi Shocker: Man Locks Elderly Parents In Flat; Mother Dead, Father Critical

The Delhi Police recovered the decomposed body of a 65-year-old woman from an apartment in Jamia Nagar on Sunday. Her critically ill 70-year-old husband was found lying next to her, police said.
Their 50-year-old son, who has a history of psychiatric illness, was found sitting outside the bedroom and has since been taken into medical care.
The matter came to light at around 11:30 p.m. when police received an emergency call from the woman’s relatives. The complainants were alerted by the couple’s daughter, currently residing in Hong Kong, after she grew concerned over being unable to reach her parents for several days, Hindustan Times reported.
She contacted other family members in Delhi, prompting them to visit the couple’s flat in Queen Apartments. Despite repeated attempts to enter, the couple’s son allegedly refused to open the door, though he did respond verbally.
Soon after the complaint was received, senior police officials, including the Station House Officer (SHO) and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, officers were forced to break down the main door, which had been locked from the inside, only to find the hexagenarian’s body in one of the bedrooms.
The body showed no signs of external injury but was already in an advanced state of decomposition, suggesting she had died several days earlier, HT report mentioned, citing police. Her husband, a retired music teacher at a school nearby, was lying beside her, barely conscious and in a fragile state. He was immediately shifted to AIIMS for emergency treatment.
Police said the son gave confusing answers during questioning. At first, he claimed his parents were just sleeping. Later, he admitted that he stayed locked inside the house with them for four to five days without any food, police said.
HT cited Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari as saying that the couple had been living alone with their adult son, who is known to struggle with mental health issues. He has since been admitted to the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) for evaluation and care.
The woman’s body was sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause and time of death. No FIR has been filed so far, with police awaiting the autopsy report.
