Delhi-NCR AQI Today: November Starts With Better AQI, Pleasant Temperatures — But Can City Breathe in Relief?

Delhi: After weeks of cyclonic rains and sticky humidity, Delhi and its neighbouring cities have finally ushered in November with clearer skies, brighter afternoons, and a much-needed drop in moisture levels. The change in weather is palpable, mornings are turning crisp, afternoons are pleasantly warm, and evenings carry that faint nip that signals winter’s slow arrival. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the first week of November will remain largely stable across the National Capital Region (NCR), with negligible chances of rain and a steady decline in humidity. The persistent smog that lingered post-monsoon is also beginning to thin out as winds strengthen. Comfortable Temperatures Across the NCR The typical Delhi November weather brings daytime highs around 30–31 degrees Celsius and night-time lows between 18–19 degrees Celsius, and that’s exactly what the current week is delivering. In Noida, skies are forecast to stay clear, with light north-westerly and north-easterly winds at 5–15 km/h, helping ventilate the city and reduce afternoon haze. Gurugram, meanwhile, is expected to hover between 32 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius through mid-November, with plenty of sunshine and little risk of rain. Humidity levels will fluctuate between 35% and 65%, rising briefly during early-morning fog but dropping sharply as the sun climbs. By late November, cooler nights will gradually set the tone for winter. Historically, November is one of Delhi’s sunniest months, boasting over 25 clear-sky days and minimal rainfall, usually under 5 mm for the entire month. Early-morning fog is expected to make a reappearance around mid-month, though it’s unlikely to persist beyond noon. Travellers, especially air passengers, may experience minor delays during fog spells, but nothing as severe as the disruptions seen in December and January. Pollution Levels Ease Slightly But Challenges Remain Even as the weather turns more comfortable, air quality remains a persistent concern for residents. On 1 November, Delhi recorded an AQI of 233 (poor), showing a notable improvement from the 373 (severe) range reported last week. Central and southern pockets such as Pusa and Lodhi Road have dipped into the upper “moderate” category, though industrial and roadside zones continue to register “very poor” readings. Both Noida and Gurugram are seeing similar patterns, with pollution levels rising near highways and dense urban centres. Experts say this temporary improvement is aided by dry north-westerly winds, but stubble burning in neighbouring states and pre-winter inversions continue to pose challenges, particularly after Diwali when particulate matter tends to spike. Health experts urge sensitive individuals, particularly those with asthma or respiratory conditions, to wear masks on smoggier mornings, use air purifiers indoors, and avoid early-morning jogs on days with poor visibility. Looking Ahead: Brighter Days, Breezier Evenings The IMD forecasts that winds will pick up after 4 November, which should further disperse surface pollutants and improve visibility. For now, residents can look forward to sun-filled days, mild afternoons, and cool, calm evenings — a perfect window for outdoor walks, festive outings, and late-autumn get-togethers.
