The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started making announcements inside trains and stations, warning passengers not to shoot reels, dance videos, or other social media content in metro premises. The measure, rolled out on September 14, applies across all lines, and officials said the rule will be fully enforced by the end of this week.The bilingual announcements, in Hindi and English, join existing reminders about not eating or sitting on the floor inside coaches. The new message says, “Filming reels, dance videos or any other such activities are strictly prohibited.”DMRC RulesDMRC officials clarified that even though the Metro Railways Act, 2002, does not directly mention “reels,” passengers can be fined under provisions related to creating a nuisance.“This step has been taken to ensure that fellow passengers are not inconvenienced due to such activity,” said Anuj Dayal, principal executive director, corporate communications, DMRC.Alongside this, the metro authority has launched a campaign on social media, requesting passengers not to play loud music on their phones. Dayal added, “These initiatives are being taken to make travelling by the Delhi Metro a comfortable experience.”Live EventsReels and viral videos inside metroIn recent years, Delhi Metro has become a popular backdrop for viral content, from dance and lip-sync clips to “get-ready-with-me” (GRWM) videos. In one such case, a video filmed inside a Yellow Line coach showed a commuter applying blush, lip balm, and hair gel, which quickly spread online.Other videos have featured stunts, loud singing, or even arguments, drawing criticism from regular passengers.Past efforts and challengesLast year, DMRC had asked flying squads, who usually prevent men from entering women’s coaches, to also keep a check on people making reels inside trains.
