The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has launched the ‘School Web App’ through which parents and students will be able to easily access information such as timetables, homework, notes, attendance, and results. The primary aim of this initiative is to digitise school operations and keep parents informed about their children’s progress. The govt aims to implement Digital India and the National Education Policy 2020 by launching separate websites for all 1,512 schools. This will promote transparency, digital integration, and improved communication between schools and parents within the education system. Student enrollment in MCD-run schools has declined over the past few years, with approximately 6.6 lakh students currently enrolled in MCD schools in Delhi. Education Minister Ashish Sood praised this MCD effort, calling it a milestone for ‘Developed India 2047′. In the first phase, the MCD has launched websites for 15 schools. Principals of the remaining schools have been instructed to develop their websites within the next two months. Information regarding daily schedules, attendance, results, homework, birthdays, and school activities will need to be regularly updated. Parents will be provided with QR codes for this purpose. This system is also mobile-friendly, allowing children on vacation to stay updated. Two teachers in each school will be responsible for regularly uploading homework and schedules. While the system is mobile-friendly, not all parents may have access to smartphones. An MCD official expects the number of such parents to be small, and information will be shared with them through messages, WhatsApp, parent meetings, and other communication channels. The MCD’s education and IT departments are jointly designing this system. Its aim is to reduce teachers’ administrative burden and simplify time management. Along with digitisation, the MCD has launched a special initiative to boost enrollment. The “Let’s Go to School” campaign aims to enroll 75,000 new students over the next three months. Parents who help bring more children from their neighbourhoods to school will be recognised as brand ambassadors and honoured by the MCD.
