The Delhi region woke up to a thick layer of smog on November 5, with the capital recording “poor” air quality. In the NCR, Noida and Ghaziabad slipped into the “very poor” range, while Gurugram and Faridabad trailed just below the mark. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the air quality in the capital was recorded "poor" at 5 am. However, the air quality in Noida and Ghaziabad remained in the "very poor" category. The majority of stations across Delhi recorded "poor" air quality, while Shadipur recorded "very poor". The humidity levels may vary from 94 to 59, with no rain or thunderstorm warnings issued by the meteorological department. This week, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a layer of fog across Delhi on November 6 and 7, while it will stay misty on the other days of the week. In a post on X, the IMD predicted heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Tamil Nadu between November 4 to 6. "Light to moderate rain/thundershowers expected in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana & Rayalaseema over the next few days," it added. The met department has further advised to stay safe and avoid open areas during lightning. Supreme Court Seeks Urgent Measures to Curb Pollution in Delhi Amid worsening smog and health concerns, the Supreme Court on Monday urged authorities to take proactive steps to reduce pollution levels in the national capital. The court directed the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to file an affidavit presenting clear data and an actionable plan outlining preventive and remedial measures. The bench observed that merely issuing advisories was not enough and emphasised the need for immediate, on-ground action to tackle the annual pollution crisis that grips Delhi-NCR every winter.
