New Delhi: The Air Quality Index (AQI) of the capital city continues to increase after Diwali. Several videos of the thick sky cover are making rounds on social media. Now a body is claiming that Delhi’s air quality is as bad as smoking 7 cigarettes every day. The air quality index in many regions has crossed the 300 mark making this issue a great concern. The residents of the city are expressing their difficulties in combating the escalating situation. The most affected regions are Goutampuri Holambi Khurd Village Maharam Mohalla and several others. Whats the data? As per the data of AQI.in the air quality in Delhi is so bad that it’s equivalent to smoking 7.8 cigarettes a day. According to today’s Delhi Air Quality Index (AQI) Pollution Level Delhi’s air quality worsened on November 3 putting it in the category of ‘very poor.’ Which areas are the most affected? The most affected regions in Delhi were Goutampuri with an AQI of 408 Holambi Khurd Village with 561 Mustafabad with 380 and Shahdara with 312. The nearby affected areas include Ghaziabad Noida Greater Noida and Gurugram. The AQI of Ghaziabad is 360 Noida is 289 Greater Noida is 306 and that of Gurugram is 201. How does a poor air quality index affect citizens? The air quality index of Delhi is falling in the category of very poor. This impacts the health of the individuals living in the conditions causing breathing-related issues. One of the major components of air pollution is the fine particulate matter with a diameter of 2.5 micrometres or less. Its concentration on Monday was recorded to be 168 µg/m³ which goes far beyond the WHOs figure of 15 µg/m³. It may cause respiratory ailments in the body. In addition worsening air quality can result in lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
