AgenciesRepresentational image Flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) were disrupted on Friday following a technical issue in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, leading to delays in several departures and arrivals. According to an advisory issued by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), efforts are underway to restore normal operations. More than 100 flights were delayed on Friday, as per a PTI report, which cited sources. The disruption, which began on Thursday evening, affected both departures and arrivals as air traffic controllers were forced to prepare flight plans manually.“Due to a technical issue with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, flight operations at IGIA are experiencing delays. Their team is actively working with all stakeholders including DIAL to resolve it at the earliest,” the Delhi Airport said in a post on X.The problem lies in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which provides data to the Auto Track System (AMS) for generating flight plans. With the automated process disrupted, controllers are manually entering flight details using available data, a time-consuming task that has led to congestion and significant delays, the report further said.Live EventsThe national capital’s airport, which handles over 1,500 flight movements daily, has been witnessing departure delays averaging around 50 minutes, according to flight tracking website Flightradar24.
