Repeated delayed arrival of prominent trains in Mangaluru, including the Subrahmanya Road-Mangaluru Central Passenger, on which office-goers and students depend upon, has upset patrons. They have urged the Railways to maintain punctuality of operations. There have been random delays in the arrival of the first and last trips of Subrahmanya Road-Mangaluru Central Passenger (Train No. 56626 and 56628), as against the scheduled arrival at Central at 9.30 a.m. and 11.10 p.m. respectively. Over the last two weeks, the morning service has been arriving late at Central, owing to which many regular passengers alight at Mangaluru Junction itself to proceed to their workplaces or educational institutions, said B. Shreekara, a regular commuter from Puttur and member of Puttur-Subrahmanya Railway Users’ Association. The service was also given more slack time, of 37 minutes, between Junction and Central, a distance of 5.5 km, he noted. Delayed arrival of Train No. 56628 as against its scheduled time of 11.10 p.m. at Central makes many passengers miss the Mangaluru Central-Chennai Central West Coast Superfast Express (22638), he added. Delayed arrival of Express trains Prominent Express trains, on which residents of Mangaluru and surrounding areas depend on for their long-distance travel, have also been arriving late at Mangaluru. KSR Bengaluru-Kannur Overnight Express (16511), which now departs from Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal, Byappanahalli (SMVTB), has been getting delayed by an average of 38 minutes while arriving at Mangaluru Central during the last week and 49 minutes while departing to Kannur. Though the SMVTB-Murdeshwar Express (16585) arrives on time at Mysuru, it has an average delayed arrival of 26 minutes at Mangaluru Central, with a delayed departure of 41 minutes towards Murdeshwar. Said to be the Mumbai-Mangaluru lifeline, Mumbai LTT-Mangaluru Central Matsyagandha Express (12619) has a staggering average delay of 1.45 hours at Udupi and 1.04 hours at Mangaluru Central. Though the train reaches Mangaon on time, after the beginning of Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd., it gets delayed throughout the Konkan network. Another important link between Mumbai and Mangaluru, Mumbai CSMT-Mangaluru Junction Superfast Express (12133), has an average delayed arrival of 56 minutes at Udupi and 33 minutes at Mangaluru Junction. Like the Matsyagandha, this service too gets delayed throughout the Konkan network. The Vijayapura-Mangaluru Central Express (17377) has also had an average delayed arrival of 25 minutes at Mangaluru Central over the last week.
