Death in Paradise icon credits James Martin for exciting new ‘career first’

One of Death in Paradise 's most beloved detectives revealed a career milestone on James Martin's Saturday Morning. Appearing on the ITV programme today, Ben Miller chatted about his latest venture beyond acting with celebrity chef James Martin . Miller is most famous for his role as the inaugural detective in BBC's Death in Paradise , DI Richard Poole, spanning 2011 to 2014. The performer, who shot to stardom as half of comedy partnership Armstrong and Miller, has also featured in hit series including Primeval, Bridgerton and Professor T. Yet today he graced Martin's culinary show to discuss a thrilling new professional pursuit in the world of literature. Miller has previously penned numerous children's titles, such as The Night I Met Father Christmas , How I Became a Dog called Midnight and Diary of a Big Bad Wolf, but is now poised to launch his debut adult novel, reports the Express . "I'm working on a story for grown ups," he disclosed to Martin, who informed Miller that he had become the programme's 'most regular guest' as of today. "After writing for children for a long time, I thought I'd try my hand at a story for grown ups and I'm kind of getting there." Miller then proceeded to acknowledge Martin's contribution to his achievements, stating: "Actually, I owe you some thanks because when I was here last year, you showed me a motorbike from the early 20th century. "It blew my mind, because it was halfway between a bicycle and what we would call a motorbike." Speaking about the 1904 Barry motorcycle, he said: "It literally looks like you took a bike and stuck an engine on it." As Martin commented on the "surreal" look of the bike, Miller explained: "That sort of got me interested in that period and I started reading more about early plane flight. "And then I thought wouldn't it be great to set a thriller - like a spy thriller at a time when all the very first bits of technology were being invented... the very first motorbike, the very first plane and then all the sort of chases you could then do. "My story is called A Very Dangerous Pursuit and it will be out next year, but basically that motorbike was a really big moment in the forming of [the story]." A Very Dangerous Pursuit will be available to purchase on May 21, 2026. James Martin's Saturday Morning returns next Saturday at 9.30am on ITV1 and ITVX.
