David Beckham says parents wanted him to marry ‘local girl’ as he lifts lid on real Victoria

David Beckham has said that his parents and football manager would have preferred him to marry a local Manchester girl – but he fell “hard and quick” for Victoria . The pair met when Becks was on his way to becoming a superstar at Manchester United , and Victoria was already a huge pop star in the Spice Girls. Looking back David said: “I’m sure my mum and dad would have loved me to have met a local girl. My manager would have loved me to have met a local girl that stayed in Manchester, that lived in Manchester, that never wanted to leave Manchester, and just was my wife. I didn’t want that. I never wanted that.” Victoria said: “I was never the young girl growing up that dreamt of getting married and dreamt of being a mum. It wasn’t until I met David that those things even occurred to me.” Elsewhere in Victoria’s new documentary series, husband David said that she was perfect to him when they first clapped eyes on each other. He said: “When I met Victoria, I couldn’t find one thing about her I didn’t like, not one thing. I mean, I could find a few now! Back then she was this mythical person. “At that time the Spice Girls were so big, and I was just a footballer in Manchester, and no one knew that we were dating. But in all honesty, I was so excited. I wanted everyone to know that I was dating Posh Spice. On love, he added: “I fell hard and fell quick. And within two years of being together, we were married and with one kid.” Victoria insisted she was not looking for a relationship but found a connection with David. She added: “We’ve been married for 25 years, and we have grown and changed together.” The pair discuss their love as part of the new Netflix series Victoria Beckham which focuses in the main on her fashion brand which is now a large business performing well after money trouble for some years. The series ends with David and Victoria in the Cotswolds looking to the future. David, seemingly tongue in cheek, said: “ I’m almost 50 you’re 51. What’s next? Another baby? Victoria replies: “My god, no, we’ve still got so much that we want to do. I’m not stopping yet.” * Victoria Beckham is out now on Netflix. Like this s tory?
