Dart’s partnership with the NBA is continuing for the third year this October with Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA week.
The week kicks off on 2 Oct. at 10am with a speaking event for students featuring former WNBA player and current NBA executive, Allison Feaster. Her inspirational journey from small-town roots to global sports leadership will be tailored for students from Year 6 to Year 10.
A standout at Harvard, Feaster made history by leading the Crimson to a legendary NCAA Tournament upset in 1998 before being drafted fifth overall by the Los Angeles Sparks. After a 10-year WNBA career with the Sparks, Charlotte Sting and Indiana Fever, Feaster transitioned into basketball operations.
She currently serves as the vice president of team operations and organisational growth for the Boston Celtics, where she leads player development, organisational culture and social justice initiatives.
Her Time to Play, a special clinic created by the NBA and WNBA, will also be held on 2 Oct. from 3:30-5:30pm. The goal is to encourage more girls to play basketball, build confidence and stay engaged in sports as they grow. The clinic also aims to promote leadership among girls and encourage lifelong engagement with sports, whether as players, fans, coaches or leaders.
Students will work on skill development through basic drills like dribbling, passing, shooting and teamwork exercises. The Her Time to Play clinic ends with a mentorship session where visiting female coaches from the NBA and WNBA will speak to the girls about confidence, perseverance and leadership. Feaster will also attend this clinic. Parents can register girls, from ages 9 to 17, here.
The rest of the week will feature a 3×3 tournament from 3-5 Oct. This year, students are being invited to form their own teams and can sign up directly here. With the goal to make each year better, local organisation ACX Basketball will facilitate the tournament, leaving visiting Jr. NBA staff more opportunities to engage and interact with the students. There will also be two new divisions – Unified/co-ed 10U and Girls 17 and under – to involve more youth. The tournament times will vary based on division.
There are no fees for any of the events; all costs are sponsored by Dart.
