Danny Rohl Must Drop John Souttar vs Dundee and Beyond

John Souttar's woeful display in Rangers' 2-0 loss to AS Roma on Thursday night has made it clear that Danny Rohl can't trust him ahead of the trip to Dundee on Sunday (November 9th). The Gers suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in their Europa League campaign, and Rohl's men were booed at half-time at Ibrox. Goals from Matias Soule and Lorenzo Pellegrini did the damage for the visitors, who heaped more misery on the Scottish giants. Souttar endured a frustrating night and put in another unconvincing performance that will surely have Rohl considering dropping the 29-year-old. He was particularly poor for the Italians' second, beaten too easily by Artem Dovbyk, who assisted Pellegrini. Dundee vs Rangers - Heads Should Rohl Starting With Souttar This will be a real test of Rohl's character and his bravery in making tough decisions, such as axing the Scotsman, who has played in all but one of Rangers' 23 games across competitions this season. He's been with the club since the summer of 2022 and has been a fine servant in that time. This season has been one to forget for many reasons, and Souttar may well be bidding farewell once it concludes. His contract is up next summer, and there are no signs that an extension is on the cards. While Nasser Djiga was a letdown in the 3-1 loss to Celtic in the Old Firm Derby last weekend, he fared better than Souttar's 4/10 showing against Roma, who club legend Ally McCoist called out. The TNT Sports pundit gave a grim verdict of his defending for the Pellegrini goal: "That can’t happen defensively, it just can’t happen. The ball came in, and Dovbyk is on the other side of Souttar. Souttar has to be aware of where he is. He’s got to be aware of where he is. Can’t allow that to happen." Rohl will be eager to get back to winning ways after watching his side lose two on the bounce, including against their fiercest rivals, as they crashed out of the Scottish Cup. The German had started making fans believe the season could be saved after wins over Kilmarnock (3-1) and Hibernian (1-0). The Gers currently sit fourth in the Scottish Premiership table with 15 points from 10 games, and are 14 points behind runaway leaders Hearts. They face a Dundee side who are 11th, with two wins and six defeats in 11 games.
