Dani Dyer has described herself as “accident prone” as she reflected on the injuries she has endured during her reality TV career. Ahead of Strictly Come Dancing ’s first live show last weekend, the 29-year-old revealed she had withdrawn from the competition on medical grounds, much to fans’ disappointment. Dani fractured her ankle during rehearsals with her dance partner Nikita Kuzmin and was warned that continuing in the competition could make the injury worse. Urged to prioritise her health, she has since been recovering at home, with the support of her husband, West Ham footballer Jarrod Bowen. Speaking about her injury on her and her father Danny Dyer’s podcast Live and Let Dyers, Dani recalled another setback she experienced on a previous reality show. While competing on Survival of the Fittest back in 2018, the mother-of-three dislocated her shoulder during the very first task and was forced to pull out of the competition. “I’m clearly accident prone,” she admitted, before fearing that another mishap could happen due to “things coming in threes”. “I dislocated my shoulder on Survival of the Fittest, and that was meant to happen,” she explained. Her father Danny chimed in, adding: “This has happened for a reason, but we just don’t know what the f***ing reason is yet. “The reason you injured yourself on Survival of the Fittest was because they pulled you out of that show and put you on Love Island. “They never would have put you on Love Island if your collarbone hadn’t popped on that slide. “It popped, they took you out, and they gave you Love Island, and you won it. There was a f***ing reason. “If you hadn’t popped your collarbone, you wouldn’t have done that show. If you’d stayed in with a sling on, you would never have won it.” Dani added: “I couldn’t have done it physically, so everything happened as it should have.” Despite her latest setback, the reality star has expressed hopes of following in Jamie Laing’s footsteps by returning to Strictly next year after recovering from her injury. For now, she has been replaced by her fellow Love Island contestant and West End star Amber Davies, who has impressed fans with her quick learning and dedication. Last weekend, Amber and Nikita earned 27 out of 40 points for their Waltz routine. Fans were particularly impressed by her efforts, noting that she had just 24 hours to learn the choreography. While some pointed to her stage experience as an advantage, Amber was keen to clarify the speculation on Strictly: It Takes Two. She said: “Ballroom and Latin are worlds apart from what I’ve experienced on a West End stage. It’s a completely different technique and it’s a lot harder than I thought it would be.” This weekend, the duo will take on the Samba to Bam Bam by Camila Cabello and Ed Sheeran, hoping to build on their early success and wow the judges once again. Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 6.18pm on BBC One.
